Wye Valley Communities for Safe Cycling

Wye Valley Communities for Safe Cycling (WVCSC) is a collaboration of Wye Valley residents committed to the establishment of safe and sustainable routes in the Lower Wye Valley.

The effect upon the local environment is also significant. Monitored vehicle-borne emissions have been measured at beyond acceptable levels, whilst the very character of our unique valley has changed due to the levels of traffic noise.

Most recently, we have been actively promoting the Sustrans proposals to convert the disused Wye Valley railway line into a shared-use path between Chepstow, Tintern and Brockweir. These proposals received a boost in December 2007 when a section of the proposed route was allocated a share of £50 million lottery funding secured after Sustrans' Connect2 scheme won popular nationwide support for 79 similar projects. Planning application for this route have been re-submitted in 2010 and, with your support, could result in a facility providing everyone with the opportunity to travel through and explore this beautiful part of the Wye Valley, whilst leaving cars at home.

The planning application was considered by Forest of Dean District Council on November 9th 2010, and was approved.  Monmouthshire County Council will also consider the planning application, as the route crosses the border between both counties and countries.  The date of the Planning Committee that will consider the application has yet to be announced, so there is still time to register support for the application.  Visit our website, via the link below for details on how you can respond to the planning application.

Wye Valley Communities for Safe Cycling remain committed to supporting this and similar proposals to help make the Lower Wye Valley a safer and more sociable place to live. If you are The Severn Bridgeinterested in supporting us, please visit our website www.wyevalleycycling.org.uk to register your support and find out how you can help.

A report on the Sustrans local consultation events held during the summer of 2009 is now available to read on the Wye Valley Communities for Safe Cycling website.
