Walking the Way to Health

 Kickstart your heart and start walking with Walking the Way to Health Monmouthshire – there is a group near you.

Meet old friends, make new ones, get fit and feel better with our free all-the-year-round led walks.  There are no stiles or obstacles and the walks last no more than one hour.Walking the Way to Health.

If you are a first time walker with any of the groups you will be asked to complete a simple health questionnaire.  There is nothing to fear from this as it is for insurance purposes only.

Walking the Way to Health Wales is sponsored by the Big Lottery, Welsh Assembly Government, Countryside Council for Wales and British Heart Foundation.  In Monmouthshire the project is also supported by Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Beauty, Monmouthshire County Council and Forestry Commission Wales until the end of December 2006.  After this date walks in Abergavenny and Chepstow will continue, and will be run by their local walk leaders.  Contact details (see below) can be used before and after this date.

The aim of Walking the Way to Health is to improve social contact and health and well-being of inactive people and to promote regular walking within local communities in Wales.

Walking the Way to Health Chepstow

Chepstow Walking the Way to HealtChepstow walkers near the Second Severn Crossing at Blackrockh group has a weekly walks programme, and the group meets at Chepstow Community Hospital every Tuesday.

The walks are comfortable and last no more than one hour. Some walks are 'out of town', and for these, people should allow at least 30 minutes each way travelling time.  Free transport is  provided by Forestry Commission Wales, Mencap and car sharing. Walkers are very welcome to meet at the starting points.  Booking with the group is essential for transport for the out of town walks.

All walkers should arrive at Chepstow Community Hospital between 10 am and 10.15 am to complete registration. New walkers will be invited to complete a simple health questionnaire. This is for insurance purposes only.
