Gilwern Eagles Community Association

Who are we?
We are a Community Group working to improve life for local people in the village of Gilwern.  We began as a group in 2004 after a need was identified by local people to provide better facilities for young people locally.

What do we do?
We are currently working on a project to create an environmentally friendly bike track on an area of wasteland that was once used for fly-tipping.  We are planning to enhance the land around the bike track with native hedgerows and plants.  We are already planning more projects for the future, including a sensory garden and improvements to the park and play area.  We are also tidying up the wood and the local primary school is building bird boxes with help from the Brecon Beacons National Park.  These will be put up in the woodland to provide nest sites for song birds.

How do we do it?
All members of the community are involved in our plans, and we meet regularly at the old School, Gilwern 7pm.  If you live locally, or want to get involved, please contact us, or come along to one of our meetings.

Grant news!
In
June 2005 we were awarded a Local Agenda 21 grant from Monmouthshire County Council to plant native trees and hedgerows.  The grant also enabled us to hire a skip to clear rubbish from the site and to plant some flowers.
