WHERE ARE WE?

The Direct Payments Team are based in the picturesque village of Usk, recent winners of the 2005 UK Best Large Village in Bloom competition.

WHAT ARE DIRECT PAYMENTS?

  • Direct Payments can be used instead of Social Services arranging community support or other services that you have been assessed as needing.
  • Everyone will be offered this option after their assessment,
  • A Direct Payment is cash that Social Services can give you as an alternative to arranging services for you.
  • They are about giving people more freedom, choice, flexibility and control over their assistance / support.

WHO CAN RECEIVE A DIRECT PAYMENT?

  • People who have physical impairments

  • People with learning disabilities

  • People who have visual impairments

  • People who have learning disabilities

  • People who are deaf or who have hearing impairments

  • People who use mental health services for community support

If you are aged 16 or over - you could receive payments yourself.

If you are not yet 18 years old you may be able to have one through your parents.

WHY ARE PEOPLE GIVEN DIRECT PAYMENTS?

To promote independence, choice and inclusion.

They enable people to buy assistance or services usually provided by the council.

So that people can live in their own homes
