Opening of the Llanfair Kilgeddin Church near Pant y Goitre Bridge, close to Clytha. Known for its fantastic sgraffito decorations which cover the interior walls. The church is not regularly used for worship now, and is owned by the Friends of Friendless Churches. Although it has ancient foundations, the church was ‘improved’ and altered during Victorian times, but the real secret of the church are the remarkable decorations and sgraffito decorated panels that adorn the interior walls. They were created by the arts and crafts artist Heywood Sumner who was commissioned to do the work to commemorate the life of the then Rector’s wife. Some of the murals depict local scenes that are still familiar today.
