Chepstow Society

The Chepstow Society's aims are to advance education of the town and surrounding area through study of its heritage and natural history 

2008 marked the 60th anniversary of the formation of the society, whose first meeting was held in 1948 at the Tudor Cafe in Beaufort Square (now sadly gone).  Within a year of forming, the society opened Chepstow's first museum in the room over the Town Arch.  Over the last 60 years, we have published many books about local history.  At our meeting on March 19th 2008 we celebrated 60 years of achievement, and look forward to our centenary in 2048!

The Society seeks to encourage the preservation, development and improvement of the features of general public amenity or historical interest, and to stimulate public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of the area and stimulate cultural activities therein.

• The Chepstow Society takes an active interest in local planning applications, and other developments that will have an impact on the local area. 

• We publish books about local heritage, and other publications that encourage people to explore and understand Chepstow and environs. 

• We also have an interesting programme of talks during the autumn, winter and spring.  We meet at the Drill Hall on the third Wednesday of each month (except August and December) at 7.15pm.  Our talks are included in the Monmouthshire GreenWeb diary of events.

New members wanting to discover more about this fascinating area are always welcome.
