The Chepstow Society's aims are to advance education of the town and surrounding area through study of its heritage and natural history 2008 marked the 60th anniversary of the formation of the society, whose first meeting was held in 1948 at the Tudor Cafe in Beaufort Square (now sadly gone). Within a year of forming, the society opened Chepstow's first museum in the room over the Town Arch. Over the last 60 years, we have published many books about local history. At our meeting on March 19th 2008 we celebrated 60 years of achievement, and look forward to our centenary in 2048! The Society seeks to encourage the preservation, development and improvement of the features of general public amenity or historical interest, and to stimulate public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of the area and stimulate cultural activities therein.
