Abergavenny Bag
Sue Harrison reported on the success of the bag, having sold all but 63. Fruit trees have been distributed amongst the primary schools resulting in a mini orchard at St.Michael's. Pupils have helped in the planting and good links for the future have been made with the schools. This was felt to be a real breakthrough.Accounts: £790 in kitty plus revenue from unsold bags £134. £900 has been spent at McDonalds local nursery on trees. £164 allocated to other projects. Article in Chronicle promoting FoE which can later be used as part of a display along with photographs. We all feel Sue and team have worked enormously hard on this project and well deserve our thanks. This has been a most positive event for our group and will benefit future projects.

Plastic Bag Levy Report - Sue Harrison
Levy is due in October. Sue was hoping that as a charity FoE would benefit. Local businesses can choose a local charity to donate to. She has searched the internet but there is a lack of information. Bleddyn has passed the information to Head Office with the intention of producing a flyer. Will any monies gathered locally go to London? Contact Harry Isles at WAG for information. Other contacts Simon Bilsborough. 20p levy in Ireland created 80m. Euros for environmental projects. Sue Harrison to contact Haf Elgar - Barry and Laurie to assist. -
Community Orchard - Laurie Jones
ACA working hard to secure land at Mill Street near the Castle. MCC has accepted proposal for a cider apple orchard which has been approved. ACA now waiting for a lease of 25 years. A grant of £65 for planning from FoE was proposed by Sue Hep and seconded by Keith White. All agreed. The orchard will be open to public who will develop the site. -
Park Street School - Laurie Jones
The school was due to be auctioned but was withdrawn. It is hoped that it will become a community centre. The organising committee is grateful for past support. Watch this space for further information. -
KALM - Barry Greenwood
KALM has finally lost the battle to retain the Livestock Market after planning was passed at County Hall on 14th June, 2011. Geoff Jackson reported that Barry gave an impressive and lucid argument. Sue Pritchard (a new name) is trying to launch another campaign. KALM will consider her arguments. FoE will continue to support KALM. Thanks really does not go far enough in thanking KALM and especially Barry for his work over many years. -
Cardiff Incinerator
Goff Bradshaw presented FoE's arguments against incineration. There was some discussion. Some members felt that inceration has its place for destroying waste materials. It was felt that we need more information presenting both sides of the argument. Goff asked that anyone who opposed the incinerator should lobby WAG and MPs. -
Meetings Format - Rod Walters
We felt this should be postponed until a later date. -
AOB
- ACA is trying to formalise 'Garden Share' - Laurie Jones.
- Sue Hep felt we need to stick to times of discussion in order to give us time for a decent break when we can talk less formally.
- Paul Clifford proposed we try to be positive and proactive in our approach to recycling in light of MCC's new proposals. A group will meet shortly to explore ideas.
- Keith White - A Taste of Monmouthshire. It is proposed that this event will be based in Abergavenny and will give local chefs and food producers an opportunity to showcase their talents.
- Welcome to new member Chrissy Hollinshead.
After a lively and interesting evening the meeting closed at 9.30
Next Meeting July 18th 7.30 pm at the Bear, Crickhowell.
