Monmouthshire County Council Waste Policy   Richard outlined the changes proposed to the "black box" scheme. Contract had to be submitted for new tenders 2008/9 only two were received DSO & MCR. DSO scheme was proposed was "co-mingled" (ie unsegregated at source) and MCC had bought a new vehicle to carry out a test in the Gilwern Govilon area. Collection would change to alternate weeks.

It was agreed that members write to local councillors complaining about the changes and mentioning the advantages of collecting source segregated waste and manually sorting. The group would also write complaining together with Monmouth and Chepstow groups.

Big Ask. Paul reminded everyone of the National Climate Change Day of Action on 5 April. Local activities on Castle Meadows meet from 10.00 to 10.30. Help was needed on the stall in the town centre to be manned 11.00 to 13.00. Monmouth and Chepstow would also be involved.

Item on possibly splitting Abergavenny and Crickhowell groups into two was postponed until all members could be contacted. Item for next meeting.

Stall at Cantref School Family Day Saturday 17 May. Volunteers were needed to form a working group Sue Jackie & Godfrey, Laurie & Shirley volunteered.

WAG renewable energy route for Wales. A table was circulated showing energy sources by 2025. Jon Prince to draft a response and e-mail website links to group members. It was proposed that the three Monmouthshire groups should make a joint response.

Big Green Challenge Steve was not present it was reported that his application had gone in and we were waiting to see if it would be selected for the short list.

Blitz Café it was agreed that Marion Pearce be contacted to give a presentation to the group. Doubt was expressed as to the success of the Abbeydore project.

Bio Char it was thought that members Barry and Chris had the necessary chemistry knowledge to investigate and report back to group. Rod cautioned against the "quick-fix" mindset as the answer to climate change.

Subs are now due.

Cheques for £7.50 (£2.50 unwaged) and payable to 'Abergavenny and Crickhowell FoE' to be sent asap to: Keith White, Brynhonddu, Pandy, Abergavenny. NP7 7PD.

Barry explained to members the enormous amount of time and effort it took him every year to get all members to pay their subs and that it drives him crazy! He asked ALL members to co-operate by paying their subs right away, or on receipt of these Minutes.
(Note: emphasis added by the Co-ordinator after the meeting. It really does drive me nuts receiving membership lists from Keith in September showing that only half the membership has paid their subs. This happens every year - could it please please not happen in future?)

Presentation to Gavenny Ladies Guild Barry G had been asked to give a talk about FoE to Gavenny Ladies Guild in July and had foolishly agreed.

Report on greener Homes Show at Builth Wells. Sue gave a brief resume of key points.

- FOE Cymru conference on 9, 10 May. Always well worth going to.

- MCC Local Development Plan 2011 to 2021meetings. Jon will attend and report.

- Chris reported he was a director of community energy saving project at Crickhowell Information centre. Group should take this on as a project and look out for volunteers to identify projects and apply for grants.

- Sue reported that the transition town meeting was not very well attended.

- Sue reported that she and her team had spoken to many shopkeepers about stopping using plastic bags and that she could do with more help visiting the shops.

- Talk at Coleford Forest Hill Golf Club on peak oil and related issues. Details to be circulated.

- There is a Public Meeting at St Michaels Centre Abergavenny on Sustainable Energy and community involvement. Friday 28th March at 6.30pm. Meeting will include the inspiring film about how Cuba managed when the USA cut off their oil supply. All members urged to attend.
