Annual Awards for Environmental Improvement

2006 Awards

The annual Christmas Party of the Usk Civic Society was held on 13th December at Cefn Tilla  Court, the home of Lord Raglan. Eighty members and guests  were welcomed by his Lordship who presented awards for Environment Improvement or Enhancement in Usk, during the last year.

Award winners 2006: (L to R) Norman Edmunds who cleared and planted an embankment, John Milsom who oversaw the renovation of the Priory, Lord Raglan, Bob Howells and Rev Gray of the Priory, and Glyn Edmunds who assisted Usk in Bloom.This year, the recipients of these annual awards were the Vicar and Churchwardens for the marvellous renovation of St. Mary’s Priory Church, Usk; Mr John Milsom for overseeing the renovation work; Mr Norman Edmunds for the voluntary clearing and replanting of an embankment on the Abergavenny Road, Usk; and Mr Glyn Edmunds, Monmouthshire County Council Business Unit Manager for the practical help and support of Usk in Bloom – Usk having been awarded a Silver Medal in the European Entente Florale.

Members and guests enjoyed a delightful buffet meal while being entertained by harpist Laura Cowburn. Society Chairman Kath Collis thanked Lord Raglan for his hospitality and his continuing support of the Society, as its President, for many years.

2005 Awards

Mr Robert Hamer recieves his award in 2003 for keeping Usk's streets so cleanThe Society’s annual Awards for Environmental Improvement for 2005 were presented at the Society’s annual Christmas party, held, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Tom Crawley, at Porthycarne House, Usk.

Our President, the Lord Raglan, presented awards to:

The Spitalfields Historic Buildings Trust, for the restoration of the sixteenth-century house Allt-y-Bella, near Usk;

The Chairman and Committee of Usk in Bloom, for its work.
