Woodlands For Learning SE Wales Team The SE Wales team covers the counties of Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen, Caerphilly, and Blaenau Gwent. We are part of a Wales wide team that aims to facilitate people to use woodlands more widely and wisely. We offer educational woodland visits to various sites throughout SE Wales, including Goytre Wharf (north of Pontypool), Sirhowy Valley Country Park (near Risca), Whitestone (in the Wye Valley) and Cwmcarn Forest Drive. These visits are FREE to all schools in Wales. To visit our website and find out more information on activities available and woodland visits please Click here OR contact the SE Wales team. Details below.
What's happening in Monmouthshire Over the last 3 years Monmouthshire has had a Forest School co-ordinator funded by the Big Lottery. This has allowed people interested in outdoor education to gain experience and more importantly training in order to lead Forest School in the county. The project helped 31 people gain a OCN Level 3 Forest School leaders qualification, and an additional 35 trained at Level 1 or 2. These assistants are invaluable in supporting the current forest school leaders. There are 15 Forest School sites across the county for Forest School Leaders to use. The project has now come to an end and there will be no more project money for Forest School training in Monmouthshire. However, the Woodlands For Learning team will be able to give you advice on training. To find out more about training then come along to the Forest Education Initiative (FEI) Cluster Group in Monmouthshire. FEI helps to deliver and promote woodland education through a network of local groups. Meetings are held once a term in different locations around the county. For more information on training and FEI click here.
